What is a noun?
A noun is a word that represents a person, place, animal, thing, or an idea.
In other words, we can say that a noun is a naming word.
Person | Ram, tailor, teacher, Raj, Indian, etc. |
Animal | tiger, dog, Sheru, cat, cow, etc. |
Place | house, Delhi, tent, apartment, etc. |
Thing | copper, computer, sugar, bottle, knife, chair, etc. |
Action | laughter, cooking, eating, dancing, etc. |
Idea | honesty, happiness, freedom, courage, anger, etc. |
It is interesting to know that an action can function as either a noun or a verb depending on its role in the sentence.
For example, consider the following two sentences:
- Dancing is a good form of exercise. (Noun)
- I dance regularly. (Verb)
